His oldest surviving brother was the prince de Lamballe, future husband of Marie Thérèse Louise de Savoie. Vincents other brother was the Duke of Châteauvillain.
He was a double descendant of Louis XIV and Madame de Montespan. His father was the only legitimate child of Louis Alexandre de Bourbon, Count of Toulouse and youngest of Louis and La Montespan. His mother was a daughter of Françoise Marie de Bourbon, Mademoiselle de Blois, and Louis and La Montespan's youngest daughter. Louis Alexandre and Françoise Marie grew up together.

Years after his death his posthumous sister, Louise Marie Adélaïde de Bourbon (wife of the future Philippe Égalité) moved him to the Chapelle royale de Dreux.
